THE LOUNGE RENOVATION: EPISODE 10

Last week on My Design Rules – the duos served up their completed kitchen spaces. In the end, Team Water impressed the judges most, putting them in first place.

This week,in a 2-part series, they take on the final room inside their apartments and there’ll be no time to ‘lounge’ around with this week’s guest judge, renowned interior designer and co-founder of Anatomy Design, Megan Hesse.

Megan shares some expert advice on incorporating texture, understanding scale and thinking about how each furniture piece in their lounge space works together to create a cohesive and balanced space.

To bring a unique texture to their space, Team Air has commissioned Melissa from Bespoke Art Collective to create a plaster mural above their fireplace and Team Water has brought in the experts from Saint Gobain, a proud BUCO supplier, to help with their bulkhead designs.

Team Earth visit a breath-taking Sea Point apartment to they seek inspiration for their designs. Nestled on the bustling  Regent Street in the heart of Sea Point, a seemingly modest apartment block is home to a unit that has been meticulously renovated into a design masterpiece and they are given a special tour by Private Property CEO, Theo Mseka.

To bring a sense of comfort to their living space, the duos visit Zorora, a proudly local and sustainable furniture brand specialising in high quality fabric sofas.

In search of unique design element for the wall in their lounge, Tia heads to Wallpaper Inn, a family-run business that has been operating since 1964.

While the duos reinvent the apartments, the exterior is being renovated as well. Team Fire takes a trip to proud BUCO supplier, Marley Roofing, to see how the roof tiles are manufactured.  The oxide used by Marley Roofing to give the tiles their colour, is just what Team Fire needs to mix into their grouting, to match the look and feel of the building’s exterior.

As the duos work on their lounges, Team Air wants to bring a sense of vintage class to their space. Amy takes a trip Woodstock, known for its many antique stores, in search of a few unique items.

Back at BUCO, Team Earth has made the decision to reinvigorate their lounge by revealing the original fireplace, and to achieve this they’re going to need some specialised tools and supplies.

There’s no time to rest for the duos, as guest judge Megan Hesse pops in to check up on their progress as the first half of this final challenge draws to a close!

Which team do you think will win the lounge challenge in next week’s big reveal?

Remember to vote for your favourite lounge design! Every vote counts towards the total score across all the challenges and will determine which duo walks away as the viewer’s favourite, along with R100,000 in cash. Voting for the lounge challenge closes on 3 December. VOTE HERE
