Last week on My Design Rules, after completing their kitchens, the duos got to work on the final interior space in their apartments – the lounge.
With renowned interior designer and co-founder of Anatomy Design, Megan Hesse, as the guest judge and mentor for the challenge the teams are in good hands. However there is no time to spare and the pressure is on to complete the final room challenge in their apartments.
For this challenge a few teams are trying their hands at some DIY. Both Team Water and Team Fire are creating plinths using tiles sourced at CTM and using Durum Colour Pro Stir-in Paint Colour in their grouting but will these prove to be a creative custom hit or a time consuming miss?
Feeling inspired after their DIY efforts Team Fire use their cordless Ryobi drill to put up their own feature shelving. While Team Water and Earth make use of the leftover stone from previous challenges, bringing elements of the other rooms into their lounge. Continua and Rudi’s Choice supplied each team with a marble slab of their choice – Team Water chose Ravine Leather marble from Rudi’s Choice and Team Earth chose Rainforest Brown marble. Each team have also used beautiful Caesarstone slabs in their apartments and have carried through elements into their lounge with Team Fire deciding to go with a bold feature wall of Caesarstone Smokestone above their fireplace.
The teams then go couch shopping at Zorora, a local furniture manufacturer making waves in the industry with their affordable prices, quality and ethical choices. Choosing the right fabric for our choice makes a huge difference but with Home Fabrics, South Africa’s leading fabric and wallpaper distributers, our duos were is excellent hands.
Lighting is one of the most important design aspects to consider in a space and for more than 25 years, Electrolux has been lighting the way for South Africans with the latest innovations so our teams were in good hands.
Team Air brought in the help of Noluvuyo Lamani, from Lamani Villiage, a local furniture supplier that specialises in contemporary oversized mirrors to help them with the perfect mirror to finish off their space.
In the hope of finishing off his space too Zweli, from Team Water, got to know his new Samsung Bespoke Jet AI Vacuum Cleaner rather well while Siphe, from Team Fire, went shopping at Samsung for the perfect TV to complete their lounge.
Our inspiration apartment for the week is situated in The Rubic, a new multi-use high-rise by Abland Property Developers in the heart of Cape Town’s city centre.
It’s a jam packed week for our team but there is a lot at stake so they are going all in to impress the judges.
Who will claim the final challenge victory? Don’t miss My Design Rules, this Sunday evening at 7pm on S3 where all will be revealed!
