The wildcards of Season 2. Both from Paarl, Zanelle is a horse-riding enthusiast with a meticulous eye for detail, while Lee is a former Mr South Africa runner up, a popular radio presenter and a familiar face in the lifestyle space. They’ve never met before – but the My Design Rules team paired them up for this season to see whether hometown pride and complementary skills can translate into winning designs.

A Lounge Infused With the Soul of Shiraz
This lounge was designed as a celebration of Shiraz wine—bold, earthy, and timeless. Every texture, tone, and material was chosen to echo the richness of this iconic varietal. From the warm, garnet-inspired textiles to the deep, moody finishes, the space wraps you in the comfort of a well-aged vintage.
At the heart of the room is a striking fireplace from Firesience, framed by a bespoke marble mantle crafted in Bronze Fantasy Leather by Rudi’s Choice. Its dark veins and burnished surface recall the complexity of a full-bodied Shiraz, giving the space an anchoring focal point with undeniable presence.
The décor blends old and new, a curated mix of vintage influences and contemporary silhouettes—an homage to the evolution of the wine industry, where tradition and innovation coexist. Natural linens, textured weaves, and rustic ceramics add an earthy depth, while soft sheers filter the Cape sunlight, creating a relaxed, golden ambience.
Large windows open the room to spectacular views of the Paarl mountains, grounding the design in place and spirit. The landscape becomes part of the palette—sunlit vineyards, rugged peaks, and the warm hues of the Winelands reflected in every detail.
This is more than a lounge; it’s a sensory experience. A space to gather, to relax, and to savour—just like a good glass of Shiraz.
